TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I began teaching yoga (among other things) in 2002, while studing Kinesiology in college. I was teaching to my friends & peers. In 2004 I received my first 200 hour YTT certification & continued on to study Yoga Therapy in 2005 in India. I have continuously been teaching yoga since 2002. And have received over 500 + hours YTT with Shiva Rea, as well.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE?
To be totally honest I do not have a favorite yoga pose! I find different times of the year, month & even day my body craves different movements. And so I listen to what I am craving and bask in the juiciness of that pose in that moment.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA/SPIRITUALITY/SELF HELP BOOK?
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. This book is a must read. Brent offers the reader an opportunity to feel heard & validated no matter who you are. And I believe that living vulnerably is the essence of living yoga. And Brene Brown does a fantastic job explaining this outside of the “yogic speak”.
ANY ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS?
Follow your breath. No matter what. Your breath will offer you your practice. Not the pose. Not the instructor. But you, and your breath. Oh, and keep trying different classes & teachers to see what feels & sounds right for you.
WHAT DOES “COMMUNITY” MEAN TO YOU?
Connection, compassion, and kindness for all of those around you. That we use attributes to lift each other up in all experiences and en devours. Without judgment.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT VENTURA?
I feel most at peace near the ocean. I must say that seeing, breathing, playing in & near the ocean is my favorite this about Ventura.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?
Food Share is my favorite non-profit organization.
