TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR PERSONAL PRACTICE
My yoga practice started at Grassroots Yoga. I had taken a couple of classes over the years that my sister had dragged me too, but I never aligned with it. I've always been a runner and hiker and my performance had suffered due to my inflexibility and lack of mobility. When I moved to Ventura, I was running daily and wanted to try out yoga to avoid injuries. I found Grassroots Yoga and my first two classes with Lee Ann's Meditation Flow and Rebekha's Gentle Flow. Lee Ann inspired me to slow down and find the value of meditation and Rebekha had just finished hiking Mount Whitney and inspired me with the mobility that a consistent yoga practice can bring. My practice grew from there, and I am so grateful for this community and the beautiful people I've met thus far.
TELL US A BRIEF HISTORY OF YOUR TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I completed my first 200hr YTT with CorePower and it was a great experience. I loved the structure and foundation that their training provided, but wanted something deeper. In December 2023, I had the privilege of going through Ana McCabe's 200hr YTT and it was exactly what I needed. My purpose in both trainings was to heal myself and find a deeper practice, and I was able to do just that. I started teaching at Grassroots in May 2024. I love teaching a class that has a balance a spicy power flow sequence and an intention that inspires my students to look within. I have really enjoyed teaching at Grassroots Yoga. In Summer 2024, I completed my Sculpt training with CorePower because I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and gain more confidence.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA POSE?
It really depends on the day, but I love Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana). I love that I can open my heart and strengthen my lower body at the same time. It always feels so good in my body and is definitely a go-to for me.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE YOGA/SPIRITUALITY/SELF HELP BOOK?
All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum – There are so many things I love about this book including the way it's written (digestible short essays) and the lessons of each essay. But what I love most is that at its core it takes us back to Kindergarten where we were taught the basics and we often forget those. If we all practiced those lessons we learned in Kindergarten, the world would be a much better place!
ANY ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS?
Comparison is the thief of joy. Leave the comparison at the door on your bad days and especially on your good days. Stay in tune with yourself and love yourself exactly how you showed up to the mat today. Don't worry about how others showed up. Maybe grab a front row spot to help!
WHAT DOES “COMMUNITY” MEAN TO YOU?
Community to me is a sense of belonging and sharing love with one another.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT VENTURA?
The incredible people this city has brought me. I met my husband (when I was 11), some of my best friends, Nash and Nola (my two golden retrievers), and so many other incredible people here. I feel like Phoenix, AZ will always be my home, but because of the amazing souls I've met here, Ventura is a close second!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) of Ventura County. I've started volunteering with CASA and the work they are doing for foster children is so important.
